The leaves on this cultivar emerge almost black. In summer they are dark purple, changing to a scarlet red in the fall. The Japanese name "Wet Heron" refers to the bluish cast from the light covering on the leaves when they emerge in the spring. 'Nuresagi' provides a wonderful dark backdrop for the bright swooshes of color of the annuals and conifers in the garden.
