Fagus sylvatica ´Purple Fountain´

European Beech
Zone: 4-7
2"-4" /year
7´-10´ /10 years
upright, columnar

The branches cascade down the upright trunk on this variety of beech. It has a deep purple foliage that is very rich in color and grows in a narrow columnar form. It does appear to weep, but does not necessarily need any staking and grows very slowly. When it reaches ten feet high it may only be three feet wide.  This narrow, purple beauty is very adaptable to the garden, providing p colorful vertical line to contrast to the lower level conifers, annuals and perennials.
